My laptop broke :(

This is less than ideal. Not catastrophic, thankfully, because I use Dropbox (highly, highly reccomended) to back up my most important files. However, this laptop has had problems before, namely that the hard drive fried (the reason that I now back up important stuff on Dropbox!).

The problem seems to be related to the graphics card – a couple of times while playing EVE, I’d get the “Display Driver [string of characters] has stopped working but has recovered”, and the screen would flash black for a couple of seconds. I thought it was just a temporary fault, or an outdated driver, so I checked the driver – up to date.

Next time I booted my computer, the boot screen had lines down the logo. Successive screens had strange dashed white lines running the full length of the screen, and when it reached where it should display the Windows logo, it blue-screened with the error message (“Tried to load a display driver but the operation timed out”).

Even more annoying is that the laptop boots just fine in safe mode – it’s actually where I’m writing this from. But you can’t play EVE in safe mode (DirectX can’t run).

This leaves me in the annoying position of knowing that I have finished my last skill’s training. I know that right now, Tyrodia is sitting there idle doing absolutely nothing. All this valuable time being wasted :(

Ah well, i’ll just have to wait it out. Now to run and check if my warranty is still up (pleasepleasepleaseplease).

Fly safe!
